At Christ the Word Church, we are aware of the pitfalls that come with modern CCM music, mainly, its self-centered texts and effeminate style. Because of this, for the past five years, we have worked at writing music for the church that will be vibrant--stirring our congregation to worship the Lord--as well as biblically accurate and God-focused.
With these things in mind, we write and sing songs that declare Christ and His crucifixion, songs about the Trinity and its work, songs about the Church, and songs about God's judgment on sin.
Majesty Divine is the Everlasting Word Band's second worship recording, and it is put forth with the goal of aiding the Church and her worship.
1. Jesus the Crucified
Music: Craig Twining
Text: Craig Twining
We all like sheep have gone far astray
Each one has turned to his own sinful way
Dead in transgressions and justly condemned
But God in His mercy, a Savior did send
Refrain
Jesus, the Crucified
Jesus who bled and died
Jesus the Risen One
The wrath of God satisfied
We are now justified
All praise to Jesus the Son
Our griefs and sorrows He humbly bore
Beaten and spit on and mockingly scorned
Betrayed and denied and unjustly accused
A lamb before shearers, He silently stood
Refrain
They nailed His hands and His feet to the tree
Pierc-ed He was for our iniquities
Our sins upon Him, it grew dark as night
It is finished He cried and lay down His life
Refrain
That glorious morning, the stone rolled away
Death now defeated, Christ rose from the grave
Triumphant, victorious and mighty to save
Jesus the Conqueror, your great Name we praise!
Refrain
2. How Sweet and Awful
Music: Nathan Bayly
Text: Isaac Watts
How sweet and awful is the place
With Christ within the doors,
While everlasting love displays
The choicest of her stores.
Here every kindness of our God
With soft compassion rolls;
Here peace and pardon bought with blood
Is food for dying souls.
Refrain
While all our hearts and all our songs
Join to admire the feast,
Each of us cry, with thankful tongues,
"Lord, why was I a guest?
"Why was I made to hear thy voice,
And enter while there's room,
When thousands make a wretched choice,
And rather starve than come?"
'Twas the same love that spread the feast
That sweetly drew us in;
Else we had still refused to taste,
And perished in our sin.
Refrain
Pity the nations, O our God,
Constrain the earth to come;
Send thy victorious Word abroad,
And bring the strangers home.
We long to see thy churches full,
That all the chosen race
May, with one voice and heart and soul,
Sing thy redeeming grace.
Refrain
3. Undivided Three, Mysterious One
Music: Andrew Dionne
Text: Isaac Watts
We give immortal praise
To God the Father’s love,
For all our comforts here,
And better hopes above:
He sent his own Eternal Son
To die for sins That man had done.
To God the Son belongs
Immortal glory too,
Who bought us with his blood
From everlasting woe:
And now he lives And now he reigns,
And sees the fruit Of all his pains.
To God the Spirit’s name
Immortal worship give,
Whose new-creating power
Makes the dead sinner live:
His work completes The great design,
And fills the soul With joy divine.
Almighty God! to thee
Be endless honors done,
The undivided Three,
And the mysterious One:
Where reason fails With all her powers,
There faith prevails And love adores.
4. Day of Judgment! Day of Wonders!
Music: Nathan Bayly
Text: John Newton
Day of judgment! Day of wonders!
Hark! the trumpetʼs awful sound,
Louder than a thousand thunders,
Shakes the vast creation round!
How the summons wilt the sinnerʼs heart confound!
At His call the dead awaken,
Rise to life from earth and sea;
All the powers of nature shaken
By His look, prepares to flee.
Careless sinner, what will then become of thee?
Refrain:
See the Judge, our nature wearing,
Clothed in majesty divine!
We who long for His appearing
Then shall say, “This God is mine!”
Woe to those who while on earth
Refused to ever bend the Knee
They will say, “Lord, Lord” we knew you
But Heʼll say “depart from me!”
Horrors, past imagination,
Will surprise your trembling heart,
When you hear your condemnation,
“Hence, accursed wretch, depart!
Thou, with Satan and his angels, have thy part!”
Satan, who now tries to please you,
Lest you timely warning take,
When that word is past, will seize you,
Plunge you in the burning lake:
Think, poor sinner, thy eternal allʼs at stake.
Refrain
But to those who have confessèd,
Loved and served the Lord below,
He will say, “Come near, ye blessèd,
See the kingdom I bestow;
You forever shall My love and glory know.”
Under sorrows and reproaches,
May this thought your courage raise!
Swiftly Godʼs great day approaches,
Sighs shall then be turned to praise.
We shall triumph when the world is in a blaze.
Rise up, good and faithful soldier take your place.
Refrain
